High Voltage Switching Coordination Course 2 Day

Course Overview

The High Voltage Switching Coordination Course is designed for students wishing to obtain additional units to complement their existing High Voltage competencies. The course is two days in duration, the first day being a refresh of all eight units, where the second day allows for focus on specific switching program and coordination units. The students will be assessed on their theory knowledge and ability to successfully complete practical assessments.

The practical assessments are based on realistic scenarios to ensure students are competent to perform switching in accordance with these the Nationally Recognised Units of Competency. 

The classroom components focus on theory education to ensure students are up to date with relevant industry practises and current legislative requirements.

Our training is provided both in classroom and on our fully functional high voltage switchgear.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will gain a Statement of Attainment in the below units as well as the required knowledge and skills to perform high voltage switching, inclusive of legislative requirements and safe work practices.

UETDRMP001 – Apply access authority procedures to work on or near electrical apparatus

UETDRMP002 – ESI safety rules for work on, near or in the vicinity of electrical apparatus

UEPOPS124 – Perform switching to a switching program

UEPOPS022 – Coordinate and direct switching program

Refreshed Units (Credit Transfer available where applicable) 

UEPOPS116 – Operate local H.V. switchgear

UEPOPS036 – Develop H.V. switching programs

UEPOPS021 – Control permit to work operations

UEPOPS117 – Operate local L.V. switchgear

Pre-Requisites

There are no ‘unit of competency’ pre-requisites for this course.

However, students need to:

  • hold an Electrical Trade or Electrical Engineering qualifications
  • be 18 years of age or older
  • demonstrate oral communication – a learner will be able to use and respond
    to spoken language including some unfamiliar material within a variety of contexts.
  • demonstrate numeracy and mathematics – a learner will be able to recognise and use a variety of conventions and symbolism of formal mathematics.

An existing Statement of Attainment is to be presented prior to enrolment to enable Credit Transfer of currently held units. Students that successfully complete this course will achieve a Statement of Attainment for units UETDRMP001, UETDRMP002, UEPOPS00124 and UEPOPS022 and a Credit Transfer of any of the other four units they currently hold.

Using his extensive experience and knowledge, Murray manages client development and project delivery to key clients.
He has more than 26 years’ experience in control and power systems, high voltage, training, facilitation, supervision, heavy mobile equipment, fixed plant, project management, budgeting and fault-finding. Murray gains career satisfaction by taking years of knowledge and practical experience and developing training packages to train others in these special skills.
Prior to founding Slam Engineering, Murray held Superintendent and Specialist positions with Idemitsu, Rio Tinto, Vale and BMA. His engineering consultancy experience includes roles with WorleyParsons and Bechtel.
Murray is a Chartered Professional Engineer having attained dual degrees Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) and Bachelor Business from the University of Southern Queensland, he also maintains Electrical Engineers Certificate of Competency (Underground) for NSW and QLD. Murray has attained a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and holds Engineers Australia committee position on Standards Australia EL-023 : Electrical Equipment in Mines and Quarries. He is also the Co-President of MEMMES (Mining Electrical Mining Mechanical Engineering Society).
Murray enjoys mentoring young engineers towards attaining their professional goals. In his spare time, he enjoys boating, swimming and squash.
